Position: Carpenter II

Position Overview: Carpenter II
Carpenter II is an intermediate-level position responsible for performing a wider range of construction and repair tasks with minimal supervision. The role includes more comprehensive carpentry work, such as framing, finishing, and light demolition. Carpenter II may also assist with basic surveying and planning tasks. This position reports directly to the Superintendent and does not supervise other employees.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Trade-Related Services
- Perform repairs, installations, demolitions, and replacements of materials with minimal direction.
- Apply intermediate knowledge of property maintenance and carpentry (wood/light gauge steel framing, wallboard installation, finishing, cabinetry, and flooring).
- Complete assigned Work Orders efficiently and accurately.
Project Surveying
- Conduct site measurements and detailed photographs to help define project scope.
- Identify required materials and manpower needs for moderate-scale tasks.
- Read and interpret building plans, including basic structural and MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) components.
Client Communication
- Maintain communication with clients, addressing routine questions or concerns.
- Escalate complex issues to the Superintendent when needed.
Subcontractor Coordination
- Work with Project Managers to coordinate minor subcontractor tasks, ensuring schedules and quality standards are met.
Quality Control
- Implement quality control measures throughout assigned projects.
- Identify workmanship deficiencies or code violations and propose corrective actions.
Additional Duties
- Perform other duties as necessary to support project completion.
- Continue to build expertise with Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings and advanced carpentry skills.
Previous Experience and Skills Required:
- Intermediate knowledge of property maintenance, repairs, and construction.
- Ability to read and interpret basic-to-intermediate building plans (structural, MEP).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with common construction tools, safety procedures, and software (e.g., Microsoft 365, Google Suite, ProCore).
- Some experience with pre-engineered metal buildings is a plus.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED
Travel and Other Expectations:
- Must have a valid driver’s license (required)
- Reliable personal transportation
- Basic Hand Tools
- Use of a personal cell phone is required
- Submit and pass a background check
- Ability to travel up to 90-minutes from Brandy Station, VA to various project locations
- Ability to travel overnight for potential out-of-town projects
- Access to internet for reporting
- Ability to complete OSHA 30 – Construction Training
- Ability to complete First Aid/CPR Training
Schedule:
- Monday through Friday: Regular hours
- On-call/weekends/evenings: As needed.

Other Physical Requirements: Must wear steel-toed or composite toe boots, protective eyewear, hearing protection, and construction helmets as required. A safety vest and proper branded work attire, including a badge in customer facing areas, are mandatory. There is also a high frequency of computer use, including keyboarding and viewing monitors or tablet devices.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Operate in dynamic and varied settings. Work both indoors and outdoors on commercial properties like office buildings, retail spaces, and industrial facilities. The job involves frequent travel to different job sites, adapting to active construction zones, and managing physically demanding tasks such as lifting, bending, and handling tools. Workers must follow strict safety protocols and be prepared for exposure to various weather conditions. The role requires effective teamwork and coordination with other tradespeople and supervisors, often with variable hours, including early starts, late finishes, and occasional weekend work to meet project deadlines and minimize business disruptions.
